Hadlyme Richard W. Bartman, age 68, passed away unexpectedly at his residence in the Hadlyme section of East Haddam Wednesday, February 18, 2015.
He was born in New London, CT September 19, 1946 to the late A. Herbert and Eleanor Bartman.
He graduated from Old Lyme High School, class of 1964, and from New England Technical Institute in 1966 as an electronics technician. He then went on to spend the next 40 years working for United Technologies Pratt & Whitney Division in Middletown, retiring in 2007.
In 1970, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served until 1972, when he then entered the reserves until 1976.
He was a true outdoorsman, thoroughly enjoying everything to do with hunting, fishing, sports and the environment. He was a life-long fan of the Boston Red Sox and more recently of the New England Patriots. If he couldn't receive the games on his TV, he would listen to them on the radio.
He truly cared for his family and friends, many times just helping for the sake of helping.
He leaves behind his sister, Linda Ward, and her husband Rick, nephews Ray, Jeff and Chris Ward, Allen Bartman III, and a niece Kimberly Bartman. He also leaves behind his ex-wife and still good friend, Donna Pearce, and her two children, Vincent Allen and Johanna Bowen.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his only brother, Allen H. Bartman, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to the Lyme Fire Dept., Attn: Donations Officer, 213 Hamburg Rd., Lyme, CT 06371 or the Lyme Ambulance Assoc., PO Box 911, Hadlyme, CT 06439-0911.
